Holistic Sustainability Initiatives
Nestled on Furanafushi Island in North Male Atoll, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa, led by Director of Engineering Hassan Nafiu, actively engages and educates guests on nature preservation. The resort pioneers the coral propagation program in partnership with Reefscapers, showcasing the ‘Adopt A Coral’ initiative aimed at restoring reef habitats.
By the end of 2023, the resort planted over 567 coral frames and 17 massive coral pyramid structures, expanding the conservation site and attracting diverse marine life. Sustainability extends to energy conservation with the implementation of the INNCOMM system, adjusting room temperatures when unoccupied.
The resort’s innovative initiatives include a soon-to-be-implemented cutting-edge Biogas plant for waste management, transforming organic kitchen waste into valuable biogas. Addressing plastic waste, a water bottling plant purifies seawater using reverse osmosis technology, saving 375,000 plastic bottles annually.
Chef’s Garden and Furana Organic
Spanning 530 sqm, this green oasis reduces the resort’s carbon footprint by supplying organically grown vegetables to the table. In community engagement, the resort partners with K’Huraa school and hosts the ‘Maldivian Journey’ every Friday, featuring local culture celebrations and immersive activities.
