Usman Khan appointed as Speciality Chef at Bā – Boldly Asian, at Fairmont The Palm

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Usman Khan as Speciality Chef at Bā – Boldly Asian, at Fairmont The Palm.

Having worked with various renowned brands, such as Katsuya and Nobu, an expert in Asian food to lead the Kitchen Team at Boldy Asian.

It’s been a long and varied road to this point, with the chef starting out life in Pakistan, before moving to Kuwait and then on to Cape Town in South Africa after high school.In Cape Town, he studied dentistry. Evidently, dentistry was not Khan’s destiny and a year-long delay to start his studies allowed him the time to work at a seafood restaurant.

While he was working in the restaurant, he came across sushi for the first time. Initially shocked by people eating raw fish (not something he had come across in Pakistan or Kuwait), he soon began learning about it. His curiosity became a passion and, before long, all thoughts of inspecting people’s teeth vanished and he dedicated his time to learning the art of sushi.

Since then Khan has worked with the likes of Nobu MatsuhisaMasayoshi Kazato and Luke Dale Roberts in Cape Town, Tokyo and Dubai.

Usman said, “I’m very passionate about my profession, people and nature. I have worked in south Africa, Japan, Bahrain and UAE. I believe with the right mind set we can achieve anything we want.”
