Christmas Tree Lighting – The Westin Chennai

9th December 2022, Chennai – The Westin Chennai Velachery hosted the customary Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in the hotel lobby. Designed with the concept around Westin Heavenly Pillows, this 18 feet high Tree made with 210 pillows is a representation of the need for good sleep that all of us need in our busy lives and is a socially conscious alternative to the traditional Christmas tree.

Children from Rising Star Outreach of India (RSOI) were invited to participate and light up the Christmas tree to spread happiness and bring in the festivities all around. Rising Star Outreach of India is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering individuals and families to rise above the stigma associated with leprosy and to live healthy, productive lives through quality education, medical care, and community development.

Lakshmanan Ramanathan, General Manager at the Westin Chennai Velachery said – “Christmas is a time to celebrate the joy of giving and we have committed to donate this tree of wellness to the lesser privileged children supported by Rising Star Outreach of India (RSOI). This year the concept was made extra special by turning the Christmas Tree into a “Tree of Wellness” to celebrate the spirit of togetherness & thoughtfulness and commence the year-end festivities.”

The event kicked off with a welcome speech by the General Manager and the tree lighting was followed by carols sung by a talented band of kids from RSOI who mesmerized the guests with their performance. In addition to the children, the event was graced by esteemed hotel guests, friends, corporate partners and other patrons of The Westin Chennai hotel. Soon after a Santa Claus on rolling skates entered the lobby much to the delight of children and guests, with a bag filled with chocolates and gifts.

The Gourmet Christmas feasting was curated by Executive Chef Prakash Patil and his team for the event, displaying an array of delicacies for high tea. To spread cheer and welcome the season of joy, the culinary experts at the hotel have also built a larger-than-life Gingerbread house modeled on the Chennai Central Railway Station as an ode to the city. The house is set with Christmas delights ranging from stollen bread, plum cakes to varieties of festive cookies and mulled wine.
