CROWNE PLAZA Presents “Melange é Madras” celebrating the emotion that is Madras from August 22nd till August 28th

Chennai is the city, Madras is an emotion. In the year 2004 a celebration was born. A group of the city’s influential and knowledgeable people commemorated 22nd August as Madras Day. There was a very valid reason: in circa 1639, Francis Day and two of his colleagues bought the land on which Fort St George was built. Many other surrounding pockets were purchased and slowly, it became a mainland that was christened Madras a melting pot of religions, ethnicities, communities, languages and… Of course, food. A cuisine that has evolved over the years.

Melange é Madras was named after a great deal of thought. For on this Dakshin celebration menu, the Guest Chef, Shri Bala has conducted in-depth research on the foods served by the various communities that inhabited Madras and still do. The thali menu includes influences from Komutti Chettiar, Tamil Brahmin, Mudaliar, Anglo Indian, Burmese Tamil kitchens and the distinct food served on the famous Marina Beach.

Celebrating this glorious food heritage and the emotion that is Madras, Dakshin brings you this week-long festival between August 22nd and August 28th.
