Setting a new standard for sustainable luxury, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives proudly announces the operationalization of the Maldives’ largest operational floating solar park. In partnership with Swimsol, the global leader in offshore marine photovoltaics, the 1,080 kWp solar park represents a significant milestone in the resort’s commitment to environmental conservation and energy efficiency.

Ms. Corinna Luebbe, Cluster General Manager of Taj Maldives, expressed her excitement about the initiative, stating, “Elevating its stance on sustainable luxury, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa is now operating with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the Maldives. This initiative, in line with IHCL’s ESG+ framework – Paathya, is a reflection of our commitment towards energy conservation, minimization of ecological impact, and preserving the natural beauty of the Maldives.”

The implementation of the SolarSea system, combined with a battery, enables the resort to operate entirely on renewable energy throughout the day. This groundbreaking initiative not only showcases Taj Exotica’s dedication to sustainability but also contributes significantly to reducing its carbon footprint. The largest operational Solar Sea system in the Maldives is estimated to save approximately 475,000 litres of diesel annually and reduce the resort’s carbon emissions by 1,200 tons per year.

Martin Putschek, Managing Director of Swimsol, expressed his pride in the partnership, stating, “This is a very proud moment for Swimsol. It has been our goal since the establishment of our company to enable island resorts in the Maldives to switch off gensets completely throughout the day and save a significant share of their diesel consumption, and Taj Exotica is amongst the first resorts in the Maldives to do so. The cooperation with the resort team has been excellent; we thank each and every one of them for the great support and trust.”

Spread across Emboodhu Finolhu island, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa exemplifies environmental responsibility and sustainability in the archipelago. With its EarthCheck Platinum certification, the resort is recognized as one of the only two properties in the Maldives dedicated to upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship and ecological preservation. This latest initiative further solidifies Taj Exotica’s position as a pioneer in sustainable hospitality, setting a benchmark for eco-conscious resorts worldwide.
