Marriott International Announces Key Leadership Appointments in Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Region

Marriott International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) has unveiled significant leadership changes within the Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific (ANZP) region with the appointment of two seasoned Marriott associates. Kelly Russell steps into the role of Area Director, Sales & Distribution, while Carsten Siebert assumes the position of Senior Area Director of Operations.

Kelly Russell, bringing 10 years of experience in sales and leadership within the company, has a proven track record of driving revenue growth. Formerly serving as Market Director – Sales & Distribution Victoria, where she managed Marriott’s portfolio of 11 Melbourne hotels, Kelly is well-equipped to lead as Area Director. In her new role, she will spearhead sales strategies, foster crucial partnerships, and maximize revenue opportunities. With a deep understanding of market trends and customer preferences, Kelly will guide Marriott International’s cluster and hotel sales teams to provide exceptional service and tailored solutions to meet diverse guest needs.

Carsten Siebert, a valued member of the Marriott team for over 25 years, has held various Operations and General Manager positions, including multiple Area Director of Operations roles across South East Asia, including Australia. Most recently, Carsten served as the Senior Director for Conversions in Asia Pacific, excluding China, playing a pivotal role in supporting the ANZP region’s robust pipeline of future developments. In his new role as Senior Area Director of Operations, Carsten will focus on ensuring operational excellence across the company’s 47 hotels and resorts in ANZP.

Sean Hunt, Area Vice President Marriott International – ANZP, expressed confidence in the newly appointed leaders. He highlighted the region’s recent achievements, adding over 60 properties and securing more than 80 deals in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region by the end of 2023. Hunt emphasized the strong pipeline of developments in ANZP, with 20 properties in various stages of development and three imminent new openings in 2024. With Kelly and Carsten leading strategic leadership in their respective fields, Hunt is optimistic that the year ahead will further solidify the region’s performance as a leading travel destination.
