Ammar Hilal appointed managing director of Raffles Dubai and Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk
Hilal joins from Fairmont Dubai
Ammar Hilal has joined Raffles Dubai and Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk as managing director.
He moves from Fairmont Dubai, another Accor property. In his new role he will oversee the daily operations of the new property as well as lead the strategic direction of Raffles Dubai.
Born and raised in Germany, Ammar brings 30 years of international hospitality experience. Previous roles have taken him to Hilton, Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood, One&Only and Jumeirah Group in cities including Hamburg, Bangkok, Cairo, New York, Hawaii, London, Hong Kong, Mauritius, and Antalya.
He started as a management trainee at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok. Within ten years he moved up the ladder to director of food and beverage at The Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong and The Lanesborough in London. He then progressed to executive assistant manager roles at One & Only Le Touessrok in Mauritius and Dubai's Burj Al Arab in 2005. He then relocated to Turkey to be part of the pre-opening team of the Mardan Palace in Antalya, joining as hotel manager and getting promoted general manager. In 2009, Hilal returned to Burj Al Arab as hotel manager, a position he held for almost six years.
In 2015, Hilal joined Accor as general manager of Sofitel Dubai Downtown then joined the Fairmont Dubai team in 2017.
He will now oversee the operations of 498 rooms and suites, 97 serviced apartments, five signature dining venues including from two celebrity chefs, as well as Sofitel Spa with L’Occitane.
