How Hilton became one of the UAE’s best places to work?
Regional VP of human resources Koray Genckul says training and development is key
Earlier this week, Hilton Hotels was named one of the best places to work in the UAE. put together by Great Place to Work, the research firm took many things into account for its annual list, including mental health provision and financial support provided by a company.
Hilton has been in the top 10 companies in the last for the past 15 years. That;s down to making sure team members feel valued, says VP of human resources in MEA and Turkey, Koray Genckul.
He said: “Hilton ensures that every team member feels empowered so they can achieve their very best. As we leverage our employer brand to recruit top graduate talent, we are working with young people still in education to showcase the hospitality sector as a career choice – this includes our partnership with Dubai College of Tourism, where we have provided innovative virtual internships for students, creating virtual culinary and operations experiences for students to build their skills and confidence for a successful start in hospitality.”
Development and upskilling is one way Hilton keeps service levels high, in turn acting as a way to keep staff happy and fulfilled, Genckul added. “We love to see our team members thrive in their careers and that is why we continue to expand our leadership and development programmes,” he said. “This includes our Virtual Mentoring Programme, which pairs mentees with suitable mentors to provide opportunities for reflection and share practical leadership skills, and has been proven to allow mentees to strengthen their self-confidence, find their voice, exercise authority and articulate and pursue leadership goals. Meanwhile, our Management Development Programmes give young graduates the opportunity to gain the experience, skills, and strategic thinking needed to thrive in today’s dynamic, competitive working environment and prepare them for a management role with Hilton.”
Another reason Hilton is a top workplace, Genckul explained, is the culture of inclusion and diversity. The Conrad hotel in Abu Dhabi has recently joined forces with SEDRA to launch an employment programme for people of determination.
The HR VP said this mind-set is at the core of the group’s values. “In addition to the many opportunities we offer for career growth and development, what truly makes Hilton a great place to work is our culture and ethos.
“Diversity and inclusion is a central part of our Hilton culture, and we work tirelessly to create a culture where each and every one of our Team Members feels welcome. From resource groups to open and honest conversations about workplace discrimination, we continue to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment that not only promotes but enables success.”
