{"id":2655,"date":"2022-01-19T12:26:09","date_gmt":"2022-01-19T12:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hoteliersweb.com\/News\/?p=2655"},"modified":"2022-01-19T12:26:11","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T12:26:11","slug":"hotel-construction-down-around-the-world-except-in-asia-pacific-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoteliersweb.com\/News\/articles\/2655","title":{"rendered":"Hotel construction down around the world, except in Asia Pacific region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Asia Pacific is the only world region showing increased hotel construction activity in comparison with the end of Q4 last year, according to December 2021 data from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/str.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">STR<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>December 2021 (% changes in comparison with December 2020)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Europe<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In Construction: 221,789 rooms (-7.6%)<\/li><li>Final Planning: 163,805 rooms (-4.9%)<\/li><li>Planning: 159,232 rooms (+4.7%)<\/li><li><strong>Total Under Contract: 544,826 rooms (-3.5%)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Germany (45,121) and the U.K. (31,464) continue to lead Europe in total rooms in construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Asia Pacific<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In Construction: 473,983 rooms (+5.0%)<\/li><li>Final Planning: 170,210 rooms (-3.8%)<\/li><li>Planning: 297,687 rooms (+16.3%)<\/li><li><strong>Total Under Contract: 941,880 rooms (+6.5%)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Among countries, China (290,265) remains atop the region with the most rooms in construction, followed by Vietnam (30,546).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Middle East &amp; Africa<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In Construction: 130,225 rooms (-5.5%)<\/li><li>Final Planning: 38,765 rooms (-14.3%)<\/li><li>Planning: 67,142 rooms (+2.8%)<\/li><li><strong>Total Under Contract: 236,132 rooms (-4.9%)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Saudi Arabia (40,269) and the United Arab Emirates (31,715) lead in construction activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Americas<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In Construction: 211,453 rooms (-16.8%)<\/li><li>Final Planning: 220,044 rooms (-20.6%)<\/li><li>Planning: 329,474 rooms (+39.0%)<\/li><li><strong>Total Under Contract: 760,971 rooms (-1.0%)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/str.com\/press-release\/us-hotel-construction-ends-year-down-61000-rooms-from-peak\" target=\"_blank\">The U.S. holds the majority of rooms in construction in the region<\/a>.
